Meet Sansev
Sansev has worked at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) since 2014 and is a Staff Nurse on Bumblebee Ward.
“I wanted to become a paediatric nurse because I love children and I have always wanted to be a young mum; in fact, I am a young mum! We have loads of children in the family, a lot of nieces and nephews and I love spending time with them. I joined GOSH because it’s a world-renowned hospital and everybody knows about it; it’s one of the best paediatric hospitals in the world. I wanted to be a part of that to be honest. As soon as I tell someone where I work they are always like – wow, you work for Great Ormond Street Hospital.”
“I started in 2014; I qualified in August and then started in September. I was on the rotation plan, which means that I worked in three different wards across the hospital for eight months. I started off on Butterfly Ward, then went to Miffy Ward and then to Squirrel Ward. When I finished rotation, Hedgehog Ward opened and the manager approached me to see if I would like to work on the ward.”
"I love the families in the International Service! They’re so appreciative, respectful and polite. They don’t want you to leave the room without taking something from them, even if it is just a date, chocolate or sweet. They don’t want you to leave empty-handed and even when you do something, they are always thankful in return. It’s really nice. Just recently, I got told that one of the dads really loves having me in the ward even though I don’t look after his son. He really appreciates me because I always go above and beyond to help out. I always want to make sure they are okay.”
“Sometimes the language barrier is a challenge, especially when we need interpreters and sometimes they are not available immediately. Something can happen in that moment, and then you have a family venting to you about something that you really want to sort out but you can’t at that very moment.”
“My advice for anyone thinking of applying to work at GOSH is just to go for it! I know that it can be challenging at times; it can be demanding and hard work, but it is so worth it at the end. The families will really appreciate you and Great Ormond Street Hospital is amazing.”
