Meet Ahmed

Ahmed Mazeed

Ahmed Mazeed, from Egypt, is currently doing a Fellowship in the Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery department, working alongside Mr Neil Bulstode, Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. We talk to Ahmed to find out more about his experience:

What is your role at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and what are your responsibilities?

I am involved in all the duties of the Plastic Surgery department, working in all the specialities but most of the time I am with Neil, attending his clinics, ward rounds and observing surgery. On days where he doesn’t work I am with other teams. As I am here as a clinical fellow, and fully registered, I am involved in all the clinical duties. I get involved in ward rounds of all patients, and sometimes attend cleft clinics and craniofacial clinics.

Can you tell me about the kinds of patients you have worked with here at GOSH?

The Plastic Surgery team works with many groups of patients, such as craniofacial patients, those that have hand conditions, and also those with ear anomalies e.g. microtia (small ears). My particular interest and research work is with the patients with ear anomalies.

What do you enjoy most about working at GOSH?

The team here is amazing and I really appreciate being made to feel so welcome, their generous teaching, and the experience they are giving me.

What are your ambitions for the future?

I hope at the end of my post here, I will have enough experience to set up a multi-disciplinary service for ear reconstruction back home in Egypt.
