Meet the team working in Turtle imaging suite
The turtle imaging suite opened 3 years ago in January 2015 and it is the home of the Computed Tomography (CT) and 3T Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner. It is a purpose-built unit to facilitate successful cross-sectional imaging for all patients referred to Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), approximately 3,300 patients pass through this department every year.
Turtle imaging suite is also one of the bases for our excellent nurse-led sedation service for those patients who need a little help in keeping still for their imaging. Patients arrive, are sedated, scanned, recovered and discharged home directly from the Turtle unit by our own fantastic nursing and the radiographic team without the need for a hospital bed. For those patients not suitable for sedation, we also have dedicated anaesthetic facilities.
Our cutting-edge scanners, operated by a team of senior Radiographers, enable CT imaging with extremely lose doses of radiation with imaging that only takes a few seconds to complete. Our high-resolution 3T MRI scanner images are able to aid diagnosis for patients whose abnormalities were unable to be previously detected on imaging.
Together a team of administrators, radiographers, nurses, anaesthetists, operating department assistants and radiologists help patients every day towards getting a diagnosis and helping them onto the road to treatment and recovery.
