نظرة عامة
Reem Elefeky is paediatric Immunologist/bone marrow transplant specialist with special interest in cell and gene therapy.
She is currently a consultant in Paediatric Immunology, Great Ormond Street Hospital, London, UK. She graduated from Ain Shams University in Egypt in 2001 and then trained in Paediatrics. She subsequently obtained a masters and doctorate degrees in paediatric immunology. In 2013, Dr Elefeky secured a clinical fellowship at GNCH, Newcastle UK and in 2014 moved to clinical post at GOSH.
In 2020, She was have been awarded M.D(Res) in BMT/Immunology, UCL London 2020 after coordinating a first in human trial in haploidentical transplantation using genetically modified T cells.
She has published over 26 original articles, including as lead authors and in high impact journals such as JACI, Blood & Science Immunology.
She presents Sher research at major scientific meetings, most recently in EBMT 2022, 2020, 2019, ESID 2020, EBMT 2018, ASH 2018 and ESID 2018 where have received 2 best poster prizes and 2 travel awards.
Dr Elefeky also recently won She John Goldman prize for best clinical research in BSBMT 2019. She has been an ESID mentor since 2019; training European doctors to develop a career in immunology and a member of UK/Ireland task force for developing BMT services across the UK.
Besides Sher work in the UK, She is an active member of the African society of immune deficiency. She is the copy editor of the African society of immune deficiency (ASID) newsletter since 2013 and have been elected twice.
In 2017 and 2019 She was a board member of ASID for research, teaching and education and has also created a teaching program for African non-immunologist in IEI and actively participated in A-projects- in collaboration with IPOPI organisation- directed to clinicians and nurses working with IEI patients. This includes training on immunoglobulin therapy, management of complications related to PID and when to refer to bone marrow transplant.
She also won an ESID 2018 best E-poster prize in recognition of Sher work in ASID. She work closely with ESID in creating ASID schools for immunology to train future doctors in immunology; Latest school on B cell defect was in Sep 2021.
Dr Elefeky is also a member of different international organisations and work consistently with IPOPI and JMF societies that aim in delivering best service to patients with IEI.
