The Harris International Patient Centre
Great Ormond Street Hospital International and Private Patient Service is based in the Harris International Patient Centre. This is a state-of-the-art unit where we care for international and private children with complex and rare conditions
There are two main wards and an outpatients department. The wards are primarily run by our highly qualified nursing teams, but the teams also include consultants, doctors, dietitians, physiotherapists, healthcare assistants, play specialists, psychologists, speech therapists and housekeeping staff.
Bumblebee Ward (inpatients)
Patients on Bumblebee Ward range in age from newborn babies to 16-year-olds, although most patients are younger than eight.
The ward cares for the following specialities, including (but not exclusively):
- neurology and neurosurgery
- general surgery
- ear, nose and throat (ENT)
- orthopaedic surgery
The children and young people on Bumblebee Ward are international and private patients.
Bumblebee Ward has 16 beds and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Bumblebee Ward is run by our Ward Manager, Alexandra Kennett.
Butterfly Ward (inpatients)
Butterfly Ward is mainly for haematology, oncology and bone marrow transplant patients, although other conditions can be treated here too.
The children and young people on Butterfly Ward are international and private patients.
Butterfly Ward has 18 patient rooms, including four special isolation rooms for bone marrow transplant patients who need to be cared for in special cubicles.
Patients on Butterfly Ward range from two- to 12-years-old, although most patients are younger than eight.
Butterfly Ward is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is run by our Ward Manager, Laura Graham.
Caterpillar Outpatients is an outpatient department for children and young people with a wide range of conditions.
The children and young people on Caterpillar Outpatients are international and private patients.
Caterpillar Outpatients is open five days a week, Monday to Friday, from 8am to 8pm and is run by our Ward Manager Emily Mellor.
Your child may need specialist care, for example intensive care. In these cases we use the specialist staff and ward areas within the hospital and will always discuss this with you first.
From time to time children might spend some time in another ward within the hospital, for example Badger Ward or Parrot Ward.
